Jacqueline Sharp

​​Arkansas Area Director at American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)

Jacqueline Sharp is the Area Director for the Arkansas Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She began her role in August 2021. She was drawn to this work because of her own lived experience during postpartum, she has loved ones she supports who struggle, and she believes that mental health is physical health. She has over 10 years of nonprofit experience including working as a director for Age to Age, Inc., and a cancer support organization located in Northwest Arkansas.

2023 Presentation:

Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention that covers the general scope of suicide, the research on prevention, and what people can do to fight suicide.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will understand the scope of the problem by reviewing the latest data on suicide in the U.S. and worldwide.
  • Attendees will receive information from research on what causes people to consider suicide, as well as health, historical, and environmental factors that put individuals at risk.
  • Attendees will gain an understanding of the protective factors that lower suicide risk, and strategies for managing mental health and being proactive about self-care.
  • Attendees will receive guidance on warning signs and behaviors to look for, and how to get help for someone in a suicidal crisis.
